We are delighted to have Deerly Beloved Bakery running the cafe at Norwich Makers market once again this year. Their vegan cakes and pastries are not to be missed alongside a nice cup of tea whilst you chillout and enjoy the market. We caught up with Kayleigh who gave us a great insight into her business.
NMM - What is your background?
I make handmade artisan vegan and GF cakes, bakes and savouries. I also make wedding and novelty cakes and cater events. I started working as a cook at the age of 17 at a veggie/vegan cafe. I did that for 4 years while running the corresponding vegan food shop that ran along side the cafe. I then worked in a chocolate shop for 3 years and learnt alot about pairing flavours (some unusual such as marmite chocolate!) visual merchandising and brand awareness. All this has helped me focus my passion on creating fun, sophisticated and yummy vegan food and start up my business.
NMM - Where are you based and could you describe a typical working day.
I am based in Norwich. A typical day for me is to: Get up early and get all my cakes ready for delivery and deliver them to all the places I supply. I then head home, have breakfast and then bake all my cafe and shop orders for that day and allow them to cool. I then check social media and reply to any emails.Sort any paperwork and order any ingredients I need for the following week. I then ice all my cakes and take photos of any new ones for FB/instagram/twitter. I then box the cakes up and then clean the kitchen and wash up, sweep and mop. Icing sugar gets EVERYWHERE!
My husband then usually gets home at around 5pm we have a cuppa, walk our doggles and then I get tea on! I can then usually be found at bedtime reading new recipes and writing up recipes I have created on my blog!

NMM - How long have you been running Deerly Beloved Bakery?
I have been running Deerly Beloved Bakery since 2011
NMM - What inspires your work?
A huge inspiration to me is Lagusta of 'Lagusta's Luscious' which is a chocolate shop in NY. I hope one day I get to visit! I was lucky enough to have some of her chocolates shipped over to the UK at Christmas (she doesn't ship out of the USA) but she has become a dear facebook friend and she was kind enough to let my husband order a huge box full for me! I still have 1 of her chocolates left, I can't bring myself to eat it just yet!

NMM - What is it you like about trading at Norwich Makers Market?
The Norwich Makers Market is an amazing event! I started off having stalls there in 2011 and then I think late 2012 I was offered the chance to run the cafe. I love the mix of crafters that are at the event. Always high quality and the stall holders all have such passion for their creations, very inspirational!
NMM - Where else do you sell and how can people keep track of your work?
